Colorado’s Fruit Growing History & Old Colorado Apples

March 29 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

The Western Fremont Historical Society invites the community to a rich and flavorful look into Colorado’s agricultural past with a special presentation, Colorado’s Fruit Growing History and Old Colorado Apples. Produced by the Montezuma Orchard Restoration Project, this program traces the evolution of Colorado orchards from the early 1900s to today, highlighting the heirloom apple varieties that once defined the region’s farms and homesteads.

Attendees will learn how early orchardists shaped rural Colorado, why so many historic apple varieties nearly disappeared, and how ongoing restoration efforts are bringing these old cultivars back to life. The presentation includes historical context, orchard‑period insights, and a closer look at the rare apples still being rediscovered across the state.

Admission is free, and donations are appreciated to help cover the cost of the building rental. For more information, contact Cinde McPhail at 719‑239‑4665, or visit the Western Fremont Historical Society online or on Facebook.
