SUMMARY:Open Mic Night at the Dusty Roadhouse
DESCRIPTION:Every community has its hidden talents — the neighbor who sings like they were born on a stage\, the quiet guy who turns into a blues guitarist after two beers\, the teen who’s been practicing in the garage for months\, waiting for the right moment. Open Mic Night at the Dusty Rose Roadhouse is where all of them finally step into the light. \nHosted by the ever‑encouraging Mick Gill\, this mid‑week gathering may become a small but mighty tradition: a place where first‑timers\, seasoned pickers\, poets\, crooners\, and brave souls of all kinds come to share a song\, a story\, or a sound. No judgment\, no pressure — just a room full of neighbors cheering each other on. \nThere’s something special about watching someone take that breath\, step up to the mic\, and let the room hear what they’ve been keeping tucked away. Sometimes it’s polished\, sometimes it’s chaotic\, sometimes it’s downright magical — and that’s exactly the charm. It’s Pleasant Valley creativity in its purest form. \nSo whether you’re ready to perform or just want to soak up the energy\, Open Mic Night is the perfect way to spend a Wednesday: warm lights\, good company\, and the kind of community spirit you can’t manufacture.

SUMMARY:Howard Hall Rummage Sale joining in on Highway 50's Treasure Trail
DESCRIPTION:Every May\, Highway 50 transforms from a quiet ribbon of road into one of the longest yard sales in America — the National U.S. Highway 50 Rummage Sale\, stretching from Maryland to California. For two days\, treasure hunters\, bargain seekers\, and curious wanderers cruise the route looking for everything from vintage tools to quirky collectibles. \nHere in Pleasant Valley\, Howard Hall has become a favorite stop on the Colorado stretch. Locals set up early\, coffee in hand\, ready for the steady stream of shoppers rolling in from Salida\, Cotopaxi\, Howard locals\, of course\, and beyond. It’s part rummage sale\, part social hour\, part “you never know what you’ll find.” \nMaybe it’s a $2 lamp. Maybe it’s a rare antique. Maybe it’s just a good story. Either way\, Howard Hall’s yard sale is one of those small‑town traditions that makes this valley feel like home.

SUMMARY:Tim Hadler Brings His Nashville‑to‑Branson Sound to Coaldale
DESCRIPTION:2025 Male Vocalist of the Year – Tim Hadler\nA Tribute to George Strait in “Strait to Branson”\n\nTim was born as the youngest of nine children and raised on a farm in the foothills of the volcano Mount Saint Helens in Washington State. He jokes that his first audience was the cows he used to sing to on the farm. \nSince those days of farming\, he’s always loved to sing and dreamed of someday taking his talent to Nashville and beyond. It was never so much to be a “star” but to be able to help those in need because he could. At the age of ten he started having the calling to help especially the lost and homeless. As a young lad he’d wake up in the middle of the night hearing THE voice to “please help”! His influence in this came he believes from his family’s roots. His mother and father instilled in all their children to help others in all that you do. Giving out food baskets to the hungry during the holidays and being at the communities’ beck and call for anything was a normal thing in his childhood that his mother and father never failed to deliver on. \nAt the age of 20 he did move to Nashville and two years later fulfilled a dream of singing on the world-famous Grand Ole Opry. This opportunity opened the door to many things including landing a recording contract with a major producer in Nashville landing 2 songs in the top 100 songs on the Music Row Chart as well as an invite to move to Branson\, Missouri and entertain. \nHe’s been touring the country ever since and has been a Branson Entertainer now for 24 years. He is the founder of GUMI CAMP which GUMI stands for Glad U Made It and it’s his opportunity to fulfill his childhood dream and help those in most need. GUMI specializes in helping America’s Veterans. To learn more about the Veterans Resources Center Tim founded\, please go to gumicampusa.com. And be sure to watch Tim’s most popular videos below. \nTim currently performs over 100 shows a year in Branson paying tribute to the legendary George Strait in “Strait to Branson”. While not performing in Branson he winters in South Texas performing shows on South Padre Island in the winter and in the spring and summer months you may just happen to see him performing near or in your hometown touring from Nashville to the Northwest to the Great Lakes area in Minnesota. Though life gets busy\, he never loses sight of his roots and returns every summer to spend precious time with his mother and siblings and family camping and fishing in the foothills of Mount Saint Helens.

SUMMARY:A‑Goo‑Stics Bring Mountain‑Town Magic to the Dusty Rose
DESCRIPTION:Some bands are built in big cities\, but A‑Goo‑Stics is pure mountain‑town craftsmanship — a Westcliffe acoustic group that has quietly become a local favorite across Custer and Fremont counties. Known for warm harmonies\, easygoing energy\, and a setlist that wanders comfortably through folk\, Americana\, classic rock\, and the occasional surprise twist\, they’re the kind of band that makes a room feel like a gathering of old friends. \nTheir shows are relaxed\, lively\, and full of the kind of musical chemistry that only comes from people who genuinely enjoy playing together. Whether they’re re‑imagining a familiar tune or rolling out one of their crowd‑pleasing originals\, A‑Goo‑Stics brings a sound that fits the valley perfectly — bright\, unpretentious\, and full of heart. \nOn May 16\, they roll into the Dusty Rose Roadhouse\, guitars in hand\, ready to turn a spring evening into a foot‑tapping\, head‑nodding\, good‑company kind of night. With the sun dropping behind the Sangres and the Roadhouse humming with neighbors\, it’s the perfect setting for a band that thrives on connection and community. \nIf you’re looking for a night of great music without the big‑city fuss\, this is the one to catch.

SUMMARY:Fire Mitigation Clinic at Howard Hall
DESCRIPTION:Learning to Live Fire‑Wise in the Valley \nSpring in Pleasant Valley always brings that familiar mix of green-up\, warm afternoons\, and the quiet reminder that we live in a landscape shaped by fire. It’s beautiful — and it’s a responsibility. That’s why events like the Fire Mitigation Clinic at Howard Hall matter so much. \nLed by Fremont County Ag Agent Kelsey Story\, this hands‑on workshop brings practical\, boots‑on‑the‑ground knowledge straight to the people who need it most: homeowners\, land stewards\, and anyone who wants to better protect their property. Kelsey has a knack for breaking down fire science into real‑world steps — the kind that make you look at your trees\, brush\, and outbuildings with new eyes. \nParticipants learn how to create defensible space\, reduce ladder fuels\, choose safer landscaping options\, and understand how wildfire behaves in our terrain. It’s not doom‑and‑gloom; it’s empowerment. And it’s exactly the kind of community‑driven preparedness that keeps Pleasant Valley resilient. \nThere’s something grounding about neighbors gathering with gloves\, questions\, and a shared goal: keeping our valley safe. Whether you’re new to the area or a long‑timer who’s seen a few smoky summers\, this clinic is a chance to learn\, connect\, and take action before fire season ramps up.

SUMMARY:The Atomic Fireballs at the Dusty Rose Roadhouse
DESCRIPTION:If you’re looking for a reason to kick back by the river and enjoy some good old‑fashioned roadhouse fun\, the Dusty Rose crew has you covered. On Sunday\, May 24th\, they’re bringing in The Atomic Fireballs\, a long‑running Pueblo‑based band known across southern Colorado for their upbeat mix of classic rock\, country\, and dance‑hall favorites. \nThis isn’t the Detroit swing revival group with the same name — this is our regional Atomic Fireballs\, the ones who pack Elks halls\, Eagles clubs\, and community dances from Pueblo to Colorado Springs. Their shows are built for a good time: familiar tunes\, strong vocals\, and the kind of rhythm section that keeps boots tapping and couples drifting toward the dance floor. \nPair that with the Dusty Rose Roadhouse’s riverside setup at Dark Sky River Lodge\, plus BBQ\, drinks\, and the late‑spring light settling over the Arkansas\, and you’ve got one of those Pleasant Valley evenings that just feels right. Music runs 5–8 PM\, and everyone’s welcome.

SUMMARY:Coaldale Schoolhouse Mountain Market: Midweek Magic in the Valley
DESCRIPTION:There’s something special about a Wednesday in Coaldale. The sun leans a little softer over the Sangres\, the breeze carries the scent of creek water and cottonwoods\, and the old Schoolhouse — that red‑roofed sentinel of local history — opens its doors to the community once again. \nBeginning June 10th\, the Coaldale Schoolhouse Mountain Market returns for another season of neighborly bustle and small‑town delight. From 4–6 p.m. each Wednesday\, the grounds transform into a lively gathering place where growers\, bakers\, artists\, and artisans share the best of what they create. Kids chase each other across the lawn\, locals linger in conversation\, and newcomers discover just how much heart this valley holds. The Schoolhouse\, perched at 287 Hayden Creek Road\, becomes a weekly reminder of why we choose to live here: community\, craft\, and the simple joy of gathering under the mountains. \nWhether you’re stocking your pantry\, hunting for the perfect gift\, or just craving a dose of midweek mountain magic\, the Coaldale Schoolhouse Mountain Market is ready to welcome you.

SUMMARY:Sam Robbins in Concert
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, August 1\, the Coaldale Schoolhouse excitedly hosts the genius up-and-coming singer/songwriter Sam Robbins. Listen to his song “Hard To Hate” here. If you were able to catch him last summer on his tour through Colorado then you know what a talent\, he is. I did not see him but know people who did and that were totally floored. \n“Sam is often described as an “old soul singer songwriter.” A New England based\, nationally touring musician whose music evokes classic singer songwriters like James Taylor and Jackson Browne\, Sam adds a modern\, upbeat edge to the storyteller troubadour persona. An avid performer\, he has gained recognition from extensive national touring\, from sharing the stage with artists like Jason Mraz and David Wilcox\, and as a main stage performer at national festivals like the Kerrville\, Falcon Ridge and Philadelphia Folk Festivals”.\nThis will be an evening concert\, stay tuned for more details (ticketing\, times\, etc.).\n“One of the most promising new songwriters of his generation” — Mike Davies\, Fateau Magazine\, UK

SUMMARY:Pack the Park: A Carnival to End Hunger
DESCRIPTION:Every summer\, Pleasant Valley rallies around events that feel bigger than a single afternoon — and Pack the Park: A Carnival to End Hunger is one of those rare gatherings where fun and purpose meet in the same place. Hosted at the beautiful Cutty’s Hayden Creek Resort\, this carnival isn’t just about games\, music\, and bright tents fluttering in the August breeze. It’s about neighbors coming together to support families across Central Colorado who are struggling with food insecurity. \nThe Grainery’s mission has always been simple: feed people with dignity and hope. Pack the Park turns that mission into a celebration — a day where kids laugh\, parents relax\, and local businesses step up as sponsors to make a real difference. Every booth\, every ride\, every sponsorship dollar helps keep shelves stocked and meals on tables. \nIt’s the kind of event that reminds us what community looks like when everyone shows up: colorful\, joyful\, generous\, and determined to take care of one another. Whether you’re attending\, volunteering\, or sponsoring\, you’re part of something that stretches far beyond a single Saturday.
