If your idea of “mitigation” is crossing your fingers when the wind picks up, it’s time for an upgrade. Shea Garcia from Arkansas River Watershed Health will be at the Howard Volunteer Fire Department Station on Saturday, October 17 at 10 a.m. for a free Wildfire Mitigation Workshop.
Come learn how to keep your home and property on the nice list when fire season rolls around. It’s open to everyone — no RSVP, no fee, just good advice and maybe a few “why didn’t I think of that?” moments.
Free, friendly, and fiery in all the right ways.

Pleasant Valley is hosting its very first Community Dinner on Sunday, October 18th from 4:30–6:30 PM at the Howard Volunteer Fire Department, and everyone is invited to pull up a chair. This potluck‑style gathering is all about good food, good neighbors, and supporting a good cause. Bring an entrée or side dish to share — drinks and dessert will be provided.
Tickets are just $1, available online or in person at A Fresh Cut, Dusty Rose Roadhouse, and Sugarbush Liquor Store.
All proceeds help the HVFD purchase Progressive Hose Packs for the crew. Additional donations are welcome.
